A Republic, Not an Empire

President Trump seems to be serious about pulling out forces out of Syria. Not surprisingly, he has met with resistance from both Democrats, and Republicans. They consider thos to be a betrayal of the Kurds, and a major setback in the endless War on Terror. This is proof that the US Congress does not represent the American people.

The President is acting in the interests of the US. Syria is within the Russian sphere of influence. That nation's internal struggle does not concern Americans. And the US has nothing to gain from further involvement in yet another conflict.

The US has spent decades exerting its hegemonic influence over the rest of the world. The nation has bled men and money, and it has gained nothing in return. It is time to focus on our own problems. The US should pull out of Central Asia, the Middle East, and even Europe. Military bases should be moved to places like Texas. Indeed, US troops would be far more useful defending the southern border than the Fulda Gap.
